M1 Course Content

MATHEMATICAL MODELS: Basic models in mechanics and assumptions made.

VECTORS: Magnitude, direction, resultant, applications to displacement, velocity, acceleration and force.

KINEMATICS: Kinematics of a particle moving in a straight line with constant acceleration.

DYNAMICS: Dynamics of a particle moving in a straight line or plane, force, Newton's laws of motion, connected particles, momentum and impulse, conservation of momentum, friction.

STATICS OF A PARTICLE: Forces as vectors, resolution of forces, equilibrium under coplanar forces, weight, normal reaction, tension, thrust, friction.

MOMENTS: Moment of a force.
