M2 Course Content

KINEMATICS: Kinematics of a particle moving in a straight line of plane, motion under gravity, projectiles, velocity and acceleration when displacement is a function of time, differentiation and integration of a vector with respect to time.

CENTRES OF MASS: discrete mass distribution in 1 and 2 dimensions, cerntres of mass of uniform plane figures (including composite figures), equilibrium of a plane lamina.

WORK AND ENERGY: kinetic energy, potential energy, work, power, work-energy principle, coservation of energy.

COLLISIONS: momentum as a vector, impulse-momentum principle using vectors, conservation of momentum, direct impact, Newton's law of restitution, impacts of 3 particles or 2 particles and a fixed surface.

STATICS OF RIGID BODIES: moment of a force, equilibrium of rigid bodies.
